Hoop Dance

It all started August 9, 2009 for me. My best friend, husband and 2 close friends all went to a beach party in Malibu Calif. It was a warm sunny day. We snuck over a sandy hillside and smoked a blunt while staring off at the sky and land. A DJ was spinning. We were surrounded by beautiful souls and then I saw it. Hoop dancing. I was INSTANTLY in love. I watched these girls dance with beautifully decorated hoops, twirling around, looking beyond blissed out. I HAD to throw myself into this world. I mentioned to my friend Chelsea that I would love to have one of those hoops. She happened to have a friend who makes them (she is a part of the circus world so she has many many talented friends!). So of course I asked her to ask her friend if I could purchase a hoop from her…
The next day, I had a realization. I am as hands on as they come. I love to create and work with my hands. I recalled that Chelsea said that her friend MADE the hoops. Who am I to purchase something I can create myself?? Next step was google, then that evening, I went to Lowes on my way home, bought all the supplies I needed, went home and went at it! I first created hoops for myself and for Chelsea. Then for Jophn. Then another for me. Then 2 for another friend…then another and another…it just kept going. In the end, I have now made 9 hoops, I currently have 4 myself. My husband has taken a liking to hooping as well!

Needless to say, it is now almost a month, and I cannot stop. I hoop in the house. I keep one in my car. I hoop every day. I watch videos like youtube will be no more. It makes me so happy. I feel so connected when I use my hoop. Like my body has a beautiful flow that can create such fluidity and undulations. It feels good to use your own self.
